Sousuke Sagara, a member of Mithril, a clandestine anti-terrorist private military group, is charged with defending Kaname Chidori, a feisty Japanese high school student, in the series. With the help of his buddies Kurz Weber and Melissa Mao, he comes to Japan to enroll at Chidori's school, Jindai High School.
Sousuke is seen as a military fanatic by his classmates because he views everyday circumstances from a fighting viewpoint, while having never encountered social interactions. He develops a bond with Chidori, who recognizes that Sousuke is defending her, but he refuses to explain why owing to instructions and the reality that he has no idea why Chidori is being pursued by many groups.
Koukaku Kidoutai: Stand Alone Complex
Humanity has progressed to the point that complete body transplants from flesh to machine are achievable in the not-too-distant future. Ensign Ledo, a sixteen-year-old Galactic Alliance soldier, pilots a Machine Caliber, an artificial intelligence-automated, humanoid-shaped mecha dubbed "Chamber" by him. Ledo is pushed into a wormhole and loses consciousness when the Galactic Alliance fails to destroy an enemy super-weapon.
When he wakes up, he finds that he and Chamber have been "saved" by a motley crew of "primitive" human scavengers aboard the Gargantia, a gigantic fleet of spacecraft on an ocean-covered planet. Chamber informs him that local star charts indicate the planet to be Earth, the cradle of mankind, which members of the Galactic Alliance only knew about from legends and considered to be a myth. Ledo must learn the planet's language, culture, and way of life while also discovering his new mission onboard the Gargantia.
Knight's & Magic
Tsubasa Kurata, a software engineer, and Mika Otaku, a Japanese girl, are murdered in a vehicle accident that starts the tale. 15 youngsters, 8 boys and 7 girls, are having a great time at summer camp when they come across a grotto by the sea. When they enter the strange location, they are greeted with a room filled with computers and a guy named Kokopelli, who introduces himself as the proprietor. He claims to be working on a game with a massive robot that was created to defend Earth from 15 distinct extraterrestrial invasions. Because Kokopelli hasn't had the opportunity to test the game yet, he convinces all but one of the youngsters to sign a contract for what he believes would be a delightful excursion.
However, after the contracts are signed, things start to go downhill quickly. In Bokurano, the youngsters must now operate the huge robot Zearth one by one in the hopes of being able to destroy all of the incoming foes. However, Kokopelli has left out one crucial piece of information: the energy source of the huge robot Zearth.
